Project 3 | Networked Objects

One of the innate characteristics of digital media is the way that physical, software and hardware objects can be integrated into a vast network of systems. Artworks that become part of that dialog of the network are ever-changing, and continually expand, so long as the data streams that they depend upon remain intact.

In pairs or singly, develop an artwork that is distributed across a network. Consider the characteristics of the network, and the appropriateness/inappropriateness of the content for that medium. Consider opportunities for crosstalk between the channels, and what happens when information from the network becomes incorporated in the artwork.

  • What meaning is implied by the context of the mediated interactions?
  • Does the medium or imply a dramatic or narrative dynamic?
  • Does that medium have special characteristics that change the nature of the interaction?
  • Does that medium have social rituals associated with it’s use that could be used or co-opted for your project?

Project Phases:

  2. production complete – April 24th
  3. project complete, refine and revise – through end of course – May 1st
